who we are
Ọgbakọ ndi Igbo na Lancashire was established to create a strong community of Igbo individuals in Lancashire, UK. We are a vibrant association that supports the Igbo diaspora through cultural events, projects, and initiatives aimed at fostering connections and preserving our cultural values. Together, we strengthen bonds and build a supportive network that enhances each member's sense of identity and belonging.

Our Mission and Goals
The aims of Ọgbakọ ndi Igbo na Lancashire reflect our dedication to both our members and our heritage:
  • Unity: To promote unity and cooperation among all members.
  • Collective Growth: To engage in activities and projects that benefit all members.
  • Friendship: To foster bonds of friendship through regular meetings and events.
  • Cultural Preservation: To celebrate Igbo traditions and promote our culture.
  • Welfare: To prioritize the well-being and support of our members.

Join the Community

Membership

We welcome all Igbo adults in Lancashire who meet the following criteria:
  • Aged 18 or over.
  • Personally or ancestrally indegenous to Igbo land in Nigeria.
  • Resident in Lancashire, UK.
  • Willing to pay a one-off joining fee of £20, annual dues of £60 (or £5 per month) and any levies prescribed by the Association.
  • Committed to abiding by the Constitution and regulations of the Association.

BENEFITS

Ọgbakọ ndi Igbo na Lancashire is committed to supporting our active members in times of joy and hardship. As part of our community, members are eligible for financial support during significant life events, including the following:

  • Childbirth of an Active Member: In celebration of a new addition to the family, we provide £100 to support the family of an active member upon the birth of a child.
  • Marriage of an Active Member: In recognition of this joyful milestone, the Association offers £300 to active members who are getting married.
  • Death of an Active Member: To offer support during times of loss, we provide £1,000 to the family of an active member in the unfortunate event of their passing.
  • Death of an Active Member’s Spouse: The Association offers £500 to assist an active member who has lost their spouse.
  • Death of an Active Member’s Child: We provide £300 to support an active member’s family in the tragic event of a child’s passing.
  • Death of an Active Member’s Parent: To help during difficult times, we offer £250 to active members who have lost a parent.

OUR EVENTS 

We hold various events which present wonderful opportunities for our members and their families and friends to come together to network and build bonds of friendship, celebrate our heritage and pass down the richness of our Igbo culture to our children and upcoming generations. 


These events which we hold at different times throughout the year, bring together Igbo families and their friends from accross Lancashire and beyond to honour our tradition, connect with one another and embrace our shared values. 


So, join us at any our vibrant cultural events (which celebrate Igbo unity, culture and heritage), to enjoy cultural performances, traditional Igbo music and dance, storytelling and an array of delicious Igbo dishes and delicacies.

Chief Barr Ikenna Onyesi

Chief Barr Ikenna Onyesi is a passionate leader dedicated to fostering unity and advancing the association's initiatives. As President, he oversees activities, represents the community in external engagements, and ensures that the association’s goals align with the needs of its members.

Prof. Dr. Romanus Chuks Okeke is responsible for organizing cultural events and programs that celebrate Igbo heritage.
